Annie Madumasa and her granddaughter know what it’s like to live on the edge.

Their “house” is a rickety tin shack in an informal settlement in Sebokeng, near Johannesburg. It has no water, no toilet, no electricity. The only heat is an open fire made with paper and wood scraps she scrounges from around her neighborhood.

Annie and her granddaughter cannot scrape by on the government grant they receive of about a dollar a day. And the few extra dollars a month she sometimes earns from odd jobs doesn’t even begin to close the gap.

The only way her little family survives is food provided through a unique meals partnership Second Table Ministries has organized with a black and a white church in South Africa, a South African businessman and North Point Church in Poulsbo, Wa.

At a cost of just $14,664 a year, this program provides Annie’s family and 120 other households — about 600 people total — with African staple food, including corn meal and soup.

South African participants are funding half of this cost, North Point Church is providing one quarter, and STM has committed the balance, $3,670. In essence the impact of STM’s contribution is being multiplied 3 times.

As you can imagine, we’re pleased with a partnership that stretches our — and your — financial support so far.

Right now you can provide the basic food staple for a family like Annie’s for one year for just $48.88. That’s just $24.44 a person! Amazingly low.

For each person you help feed, the power of the partnership and its funding match means you’ll reach an additional 3 people.

Won’t you join us? Your gift will be a great help to poor children and families in South Africa who are struggling to survive on the edge — as close as you can get without falling off.

Respectfully,

Craig Torstenbo
