The new Klipkop multipurpose center is now a beehive of activity,

largely through the efforts of this team introduced to you in July.

Here is what’s happening now at Klipkop:

  • The Council for Church Social Service has agreed to provide about $90,000 in funding over the next two years.  This will provide a Manager, 11 outreach workers, daily meals for the after-school drop in center (they estimate about 300 kids will use this facility), and a variety of other much-needed equipment and materials.

  • The day care is now operating with 38 children.

  • A meals program is underway serving 120 families, about 600 people.

  • Church services are held in the center each Sunday.

  • They are planning a Christmas event for hundreds of children, including Maranatha and Boeketlong kids. (Most kids never receive gifts or experience a Christmas celebration.)

  • They have completed a proposal to the Ministry of Agriculture for training, seeds, fertilizer and equipment for their community garden.

  • Screenings and referrals are underway for HIV/AIDS, TB and other health conditions.

  • The 11 outreach workers are serving the needs of community families each day.

The positive impact on people has been so great, this outreach can

truly be called a center for community transformation!

MAJOR NEW DEVELOPMENT

As a result of what they have seen at Klipkop, the Municipality has asked STM to take the lead in developing leadership for another center to be located in the settlement of Boeketlong.  There is a good chance they will provide a building site.  Stay tuned.

None of this would not be happening without your trust and support.  We thank you.
